Story-Driven Animation

Concept
For this animation, I wanted to explore how music influences a narrative. While brainstorming, I stumbled upon the concept of two friendly rivals playing a tennis match against each other. Playing tennis includes many rhythmic actions such as a ball bouncing, hitting the ball with the racket, and running around the court. I felt that this, combined with the story arch of two rivals playing against each other, created an intriguing and captivating animation.

Music

Hula Hoops by DPR Live is an upbeat song that represents the feeling of a cool summer night. I decided this song would be a perfect fit due to the song’s repetitive rhythm that is similar to a bouncing tennis ball.
Design

To incorporate these colors into the design, I assigned each character a specific color while using orange as an support color. Character A was assigned the color blue to symbolize her loyalty to her friend, but also her reliability and straight-forward tennis playing style. Character B was assigned the color pink to represent her compassion and playfulness as a tennis player. Their clothing styles lend themselves to their techniques, with Character A’s clothes being stiffer and simpler, while Character B’s are more lose and complex.
