Lyric Video Design
The Bird Song Lyrics Video is an exploration of how kinetic typography impacts the feeling and narrative of a song. Throughout the animation, I focused on how the various effects, grid formats, and illustrative elements impact the viewer’s perspective of the song.

Song by Noah Floersch

Music

The Bird Song by Noah Floersch weaves a story about fate and inevitable tragedy through the metaphor of a bird and arrow. I decided to animate this song because of the lyrics’ illustrative nature and repetitive melody.
Inspiration and Design
Because the style of the song is similar to folk music, I wanted the lyric video to be aesthetically clean with minimal effects and simple illustrations in order to highlight the lyrics and voice of the artist.
I found the lyric video Zombie by Day6 to be similar to what I wanted for my video: simple, entertaining, and straight forward while incorporating illustrations that don’t overshadow the lyrics or music.

For color, I decided to use the album cover’s tertiary palette. I wanted the lyric video to remain consistent with the album’s branding and tone.

For the typography, I picked Providence Sans Pro: a handwritten font that would fit the melody and style of the song.

To add to the “homemade” and rustic feel of the music video, I decided to illustrate graphics that go along with the characters and events that are happening within the song.
